Arguments - The fuel of our fire
In today's society, almost EVERYONE has to argue about something. Everyone wants their opinion and belief to be known and influence other people. Some people just naturally want to disagree with you because that's their genetic make up. People argue sometimes in order to get their opinions heard and for others to follow their beliefs. It may be hard to change someone's whole perspective of something, but arguing about it means you really care about it. An argument is an exchange of opposing views, although it can be associated with heated disagreements, arguments can simply be civilized opposing views combating each other to overthrow the weaker standpoint.
There are different ways to positively and negatively argue about a topic. Most people let their feelings get in the way which causes emotion to rise and they end up making it a personal issue, which then creates divisional walls for both parties and no productivity is done in the discussion. Instead of getting personal and trying to attack someone, the proper way to argue is to state your claim and back up your claim factually with credible evidence and to disprove the counter argument. this creates a safe environment for people to state their claims and not have heated emotions rise which cause personal attacks and defense, which therefore creates no productivity.
Living in the south, there are a lot of different feelings towards a lot of the racial points of views, such as the confederate monuments, black justice and minority opportunity. Also, as a christian i often encounter people trying to make false claims against my beliefs, and I see and encounter arguments all the time. In order for me to have a safe and good argument, I always try to provide good evidence to support my claim, and be able to shoot down the counter argument. Not only do i try to provide evidence for the "meat" of my argument, but I also try to understand the other persons point of view, because not only do they have a right to feel or think some type of way, but that also helps me better understand the argument and the different areas where my claim is stronger. It's the same concept as watching film in sports.
