Social Media - Cyber Quick Sand

In 2017, there are very few things that have heavy impact on the masses. One of the biggest influences on most citizens is social media. Social media enhances our communication and point of view but silently destroys our character and personal lives. Social Media provides an amazing way for us to explore the world and everything in it with just our fingertips, and we can explore different motives and ways of life throughout the human race. Communication is also at its fastest rate it has ever been since the beginning of time, and social media also provides a platform for us to speak out on issues and subjects going on in our lives. But even through all the communication and publicity benefits, social media is destroying our character by giving us false images and hopes for things we think we want and making us conform to social media as an outlet from our lives which therefore destroys our interpersonal skills and relationships.

With the click of a button, you can go anywhere in the world and meet anyone you want to meet. Social Media provides amazing avenues to experience different ways of life which benefits us by broadening our "thinking horizon" on how to approach everyday situations in life. But the more we try this mind drug, the more we get addicted to it. Most people spend more times on their phones on social media more than anything else they do in their lives. There's always something to look at, something to watch, or something to argue about. This doesn't help the world wide problem of people wanting to be entertained so much but not doing anything productive. The fact that we feed off of this "cyber high" that keeps us going back to these apps, causes these companies to always add more and more to keep us coming back, which ultimately causes us to procrastinate in life or not pay attention to things that mater because we are too busy on social media.

There are some amazing things to see on social media and there are many people we idolize when we look at their life. The only problem is that people don't see that it's false. People only see what's on the lens but don't know the content or background of what's on the screen. This creates false images and people start to become brainwashed and conform to images they worship, instead of just becoming someone of themselves. Social media also destroys character by providing a way for us to hide behind our screens instead of talking to people face to face and growing our relationships with them. Most people don't know how to talk properly anymore or handle social situations because no one takes the time to talk to others and learn how to deal with different personalities and social views.

Social media has its pros and cons just like anything else. It's very sad though that it has a huge negative affect on human interaction personally although it's supposed to be a catalyst for interaction for the masses. It's easy to talk and post behind a screen but if we can't handle real life social issues in person that we encounter in our everyday lives, we failed.
